「ついに無事に帰ってきた」——。作業員３３人が地下坑道に閉じ込められたチリ北部コピアポ近郊のサンホセ鉱山事故で、１３日午前０時１０分（日本時間１３日午後０時１０分）、救出第１号の副現場監督フロレンシオ・アバロスさん（３１）が救出用カプセル「フェニックス（不死鳥）」で地上に引き上げられた。
　６９日に及ぶ過酷な地底生活を耐えぬいての「奇跡の生還」。約１時間後には、２人目の作業員マリオ・セプルベダさん（４０）も救出され、全員帰還への期待が高まった。
　セプルベダさんは地底から持参した袋から、岩のかけらを出迎えた大統領や地上の作業員らに渡した。地底生活の「土産」らしい。妻や作業員らと抱き合い、「マリオ、マリオ」とコールされるなか、派手なガッツポーズで喜びの声を絶叫した。
